Out-of-Town Patients Welcome
At North Florida Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics, we care for patients from across Florida and beyond who travel to Gainesville for cosmetic surgery. Whether you are considering a breast procedure, body contouring, or facial rejuvenation, our practice makes it as seamless as possible to plan your surgery, recover safely, and return home with confidence.
Our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta and Dr. John W. Tyrone, alternate surgical days so that scheduling remains flexible for patients traveling from out of town.
Virtual Consultations
The first step is a virtual consultation. This allows you to consult with one of our surgeons from the comfort of your own home. Your surgeon will review your medical history and any photos you provide, then create a personalized surgical plan. You will have a chance to ask our patient coordinators any questions you may have over the phone or through email. This step saves you unnecessary travel while ensuring you feel prepared and supported.
Pre-Operative Appointment
Patients are required to attend a pre-operative appointment within two weeks before surgery. For those traveling from outside Gainesville, we accommodate same-week scheduling:
- Dr. Mateo performs surgeries on Mondays and Wednesdays. Out-of-town patients seeing Dr. Mateo can complete their pre-op the day before surgery, on Tuesday, and have their procedure done on Wednesday.
- Dr. Tyrone performs surgeries on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Out-of-town patients seeing Dr. Tyrone can complete their pre-op the day before surgery, on either Monday or Wednesday.
This flexibility allows you to minimize travel while still ensuring that all surgical details are finalized before your procedure.
Post-Operative Care
The morning after your surgery, you will return to the office for a post-operative appointment. During this visit, your surgeon will check your incisions, answer questions, and make sure your healing is progressing as expected before you travel home.
Please note: You will not be able to drive after surgery due to anesthesia and medication. We require that you arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from surgery, stay with you overnight, and bring you to your follow-up visit the next morning.

For patient convenience, several hotels are located close to our office and surgery center. Many offer comfortable accommodations, easy access to local dining, and proximity to our practice for your pre-op and post-op visits. If you’d like recommendations, our team will gladly help you select a nearby hotel that suits your needs.
Aftercare Support
We want every out-of-town patient to feel supported through their recovery. Our team provides clear post-operative instructions, ongoing communication, and 24/7 access to our on-call staff member for urgent concerns. With careful planning, most patients are ready to travel home safely the day after their surgery.
